Oh btw, as a mountaineer fan, FUCK HIM! He left for the money$$$$$$$. Not this bullshit that the so called "experts" are saying. Mark my words. It will come out. Just like last year with Alabama. He extorted more money last year and did the same thing this year. WVU blinked last year. They didn't this year.

I know it's a long shot, but I'd LOVE to see WVU win the big game against Oklahoma -- WITHOUT DickRod on the sidelines, then watch The Wonder Boy go 0-10 next year at Michigan, then be escorted out of Ann Arbor with a pink slip in his pocket.

For a very long time it't been about the money. Makes no difference what sport or at what level.

But think of this: There is an entire generation turning away from "sports" to "games". Yes, interactive video. It's just more fun for more people to "do it" than to watch it.

Perhaps the days of nothing but football on TV on Sundays will be replaced by a new "game of the week"?

Rod doesn't owe WVU dick. He owed them his best effort while he worked there, but nothing beyond that. The minute he resigned and took the UM job he stopped owing WVU and started owing UM.
It's not like there's nobody else who can do the job. They'll open up a new can of coaches and move on.
Oh, they'll probably have to open up a new can of couches too.

I think they have a shot if they can find some coaches to coach the damn game.

In my mind, Rich owes nothing to anyone. He stepped in to revitalize the WVU program when it needed him in the worst way. Nehlen had announced he would quit, and as I recall, a lot of folks thought WVU should go after a 'name coach', but no one was lining up to take the gig. Rich took the opportunity presented to him, and managed to parlay his native West Virginian status, and success into massively positive PR for the school.

He's done his job, and now it's time to move to the next level--and make no mistake--Michigan IS the next level!

Did he do it for money? Not likely--after a certain level of dollars, there's only so much you can really use, and I think he's reached that point. Knowing Rich a bit, and knowing his roots, and competitive nature--I think this was a challenge he couldn't pass up.

There are only a few jobs in NCAA football that have the cache of being truly elite.

Michigan is certainly one of those. Notre Dame--despite recent trouble--is also on the list, along with Ohio State, Bama, LSU, USC, Texas....there are a few more, but year-in and year-out, these seem to rise to the elite level all the time. As someone who genuinely likes Rich, and a WVU fan...I don't begrudge him this chance at all.

As a Buckeye fan, I welcome the challenge of Michigan. It's a rare rivalry that makes the entire league better--but only when it's competitive. Make no mistake--the Wolverines haven't really been there recently. I believe Rod will win right now. He has the talent available already, and knows how to use what he has to make it happen.

I think there's a better story here than people know. Look around at all the names taking the big college jobs recently, and there's a huge West Virginia connection.

Rich--all the Bowdens--Jimbo Fisher--Nick Saban--even Lou Holtz--all West Virginians. Why hasn't someone started calling the Mountain State the NEW Cradle Of Coaches?

As a native, and long-time former resident of WV, I can says I'm very proud to see these guys getting the job done, and being considered front-runners for the big time jobs.

One more thing--if WVU had been anyplace but the Big East--I think Rich might've been tempted to stay. I would love to see him in the ACC or SEC, but I'm damned glad he's in the Big Ten, and I'm proud and happy for a guy I like and respect.

No, he did not do the job nor finish the job. I have no problem with what he did in leaving and he not jacked them around by doing the same thing last year. He did not do the job by quitting on a team about to make a major bowl appearence. The headline on the Gazette Op/Ed said it best...good riddance.

FYI--I have been told by someone at WVU that he wanted to coach the Fiesta Bowl, but school officials nixed the idea.

I understand why, but let's make sure we understand that even though he took another job, he wanted to finish the season.

Bombshell from Pittsburgh Post-Gazette, reporting WVU admin refused to negotiate a few sticking points...

...All agree that the details separating the two sides had nothing to do with Mr. Rodriguez getting richer.

In separate meetings with Athletic Director Ed Pastilong, Chief of Staff Craig Walker and, finally, late Saturday night with newly installed President Mike Garrison, (Rodriguez) asked the university to do the following:

â€¢ Allow at least an additional $100,000 in bonus money for his assistants.

â€¢ Allow scholarship players to retain possession of textbooks at the end of each term, which meant they could have sold them, as apparently happens at other programs.

â€¢ Waive a $5 ticket fee for each high-school football coach attending Mountaineer home games, a fee that generates an estimated $5,000 for the university each season.

â€¢ Hire seven graduate assistants and a new recruiting coordinator, to ease the duties performed by secondary coach Tony Gibson.

"You could do them in 15 minutes," (alumni donor Bob) Reynolds said of the wish list.

Those supporters, who pledged millions last December for the six-year, $1.9 million-per-year contract that helped to keep Mr. Rodriguez from accepting the University of Alabama coaching position, offered to absorb the additional costs. Their offer was denied.

But hey, if those big time donors don't want to give their money to WVU bring on down here to MU! We need an IPF, baseball stadium(on campus) and tennis complex.

We could name the IPF the "Rich Rodriguez is a no talent hack IPF" or "Pastilong sucks donkey dongs IPF"
